Day 9 Riding Like the Wind

6:30 p.m. We had a great day on the bikes, riding 98 miles to Macon, MO...a mere 62 miles from Hannibal. Tomorrow, a metric century and we're there.

We feel the ride winding down; feeling a bit contemplative about it. What an amazing thing we've done..come together as a community united to raise awareness and help save many more lives through early detection of ovarian cancer. We've connected with the great people we met along the way, the multitudes reached by this blog all over the country, the 82 chapters of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, and who knows how many thousands by the four TV stories and several major newspaper stories that have been done or will be done by the end of the day tomorrow.

If you're within the range of KTVO-TV in Kirksville, MO - Ottumwa,IA tonight you can catch the story they did this afternoon with us.

We're planning to be in Hannibal tomorrow at 2p.m. We hope to see some of you there! We'll roll down to the Tom & Huck statue on North Main and change from bike shoes into Keens for the first time in more than a week.

The Kansas Pizza Huts can rest easily tonight. It's over. Well, until next time. (Cue theme music from JAWS)

Brad (and Bob)

12:15p.m. The rain and lightning stopped this morning, and we have the wind to our backs for a change. YEEE hawww! We're averaging about 15 mph with more than 40 miles in so far today. Macon, MO is our goal for today.

KTVO-TV, which is the ABC affiliate for the Kirksville-Ottumwa market in NE Missouri, called me on the road this morning. They're going to meet us along U.S. 36 today for a story that we assume will air this evening.

We're still a GO for arriving in Hannibal tomorrow around 2p.m. at the historic Tom & Huck statue on North Main Street.

We're almost there. Susan would have loved to be on this ride.

Later!

Brad (and Bob)

7:00 a.m. It's raining in Cameron, MO this morning, with occasional lightning, so we're going to wait for awhile before departing. We're ready to get going. We had a pre-breakfast; I had two donuts, a bagel, two Belgian waffles, apple juice, orange juice and abundant coffee. We'll stop down the road a bit to have a hearty actual breakfast.

This forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms until noon, then isolated rain until 7p.m. Looking east, the weather looks good.

We expect to arrive in Hannibal tomorrow around 2p.m. We'll ride to the Tom & Huck statue on North Main street to officially conclude this particular CycleQuest ride.

Gotta go...Bob is up at a DQ having a snack.

....so, having one more chicken breast is really no big deal! : )

I prayed this morning that God would give you each a renewing energy and peace to ride these final miles. I also prayed for your continued safety.

30 minutes of no thunder = safe to resume outdoor activity.

Enjoy the 'real' breakfast!

Just a light snack I see. Maybe Bob has the "clue" about the real breakfast. Gotta be very careful with that lightening. Very very dangerous so watch. Prayers are in abundance for your safety and strength to end up at the statue in Hannibal. Your goals and drive will get you there and God has protected you through out. Rain, well it means that you take a moment to: locate the next Pizza Hut, or take another bagel, or cup of Jo........whatever.......TAKE it.

Love you guys.....Congratulations on such a great success through KS. and safe ride.

Love Vicki

ah but to be a "fly" on the glasses at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Hannibal, MO. How I'd love it. My champagne glass is raised to you both for your accomplishments. What lives you have touched, how many you have reached. Before long those numbers will turn around for the govt. funding because you have begun a quest. Are you ready for the "committee" to merge upon you and take this to the next level? I can't wait. Rest guys you've been in God's hands and will continue to be for the next 62 miles. May God continue to give you the renew strength again tomorrow.

Love and big Hugs......Vicki

I hope I'm not too late to send my words of encouragement. Brad I was sorry to have to miss the July 4th trip to Carbondale, I knew I would miss great laughs and great fellowship!! I admire you both for your dedication to making more women (and men) aware of ovarian cancer. What an awesome experience you have had and I pray for your safety as you complete your journey. I would love to do something like this someday but I guess I had better break out the bike first and take a spin around the block. Anyway, you are in my prayers and I know Susan is smiling down on you:) May God richly bless you both as I know your efforts will indeed help someone live a longer life!

ALL MY LOVE,
Marcella

Brad and Bob, It has ALL been said....You are BOTH the GREATEST for this 'WONDERFUL THING' you have just done - have one more day to wrap up. I am thankful to God that I am part of your life, Brad, and indirectly, yours, too, Bob! It has been a priviledge to lift you up in prayer throughout your journey. Stock up on doughnuts, and pizza!! Wish I could be there tomorrow to give you both a heart-felt hug - I shall be there in SPIRIT!!! May God RICHLY BLESS you both for what you have done!
Trudy wants to know how many bugs you have on your teeth!!! Girl, hers get LOADED UP everytime she rides her Western Flyer (with the bell on the handlebars)!!!!! Trudy says, "Statute or BUST!!!"

Hi Brad & Bob,

Congratulations on being near the end of your inspirational and tough ride. You are not far from another inspirational rider - Lance Armstrong. He is currently riding the RAGBRAI whioh began on Sunday in Iowa. Even my 83-year-old aunt in Pella, IA knew about that. You will soon be 'famous' for your efforts and impact. Wish we could see that Midwest news coverage. Enjoy the festivities in Hannibal.

I was wondering when Trudy was going to say something about bugs on your teeth. You know she is ALWAYS concerned with looks! And, for as much as Trudy loves a good celebration, I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't laying awake trying to figure out how to get to Hannibal by 2:00 tomorrow!

Great Work! What a priviledge to have lived, in a small way, the experience(s) of the last several days!

Can't wait to read more about your journey and to see the photos.

Love to you both!
